Allergy Aware Asian Fare by Sharon Wong

Happy Friday!! I have a new recipe this week and my favorite Asian-inspired Thanksgiving sides.

Here are my top recommendations from Nut Free Wok for this week.

New and Recommended Recipes

Greenland Halibut Steaks

This easy pan-seared Greenland halibut steak recipe combines the ease of pan searing with the Cantonese flavors of soy, ginger, and scallions that’s used for steamed fish recipes.

Cantonese Sticky Rice

Sharon’s special sticky rice recipe is an allergy aware version of her mom’s Chinese Style Sticky Rice or “Nor May Fan,” which is pure comfort food. This recipe is mushroom-free.

Cranberry Sauce

You can make this easy Instant Pot Cranberry Sauce recipe using 3 ingredients in less than 30 minutes. This recipe is free of the top 9 allergens and is a must-have sauce for your next turkey dinner. I’ve also included stovetop instructions in the recipe notes.

Additional Updates

I was updating a post on how to choose an allergy-friendly Chinese rice wine, and remembered that there are now proposed rules to call out allergens in alcohol. “TTB has issued a notice of proposed rulemaking, Notice No. 62, 71 FR 42329, which proposes to make the labeling of major food allergens mandatory. In addition, we have published an interim rule, T.D. TTB-53, 71 FR 42260, which sets forth standards for optional allergen labeling statements.” These rules are long overdue!!

I'm loving my Instant Vortex Plus air fryer, which is currently on sale. I have been busy with work travel, family emergencies, and illness but I'm finally cooking again. Totally loving that I can make chicken drumsticks in an energy efficient way.
