Happy Halloween and Safety Reminders, Plus Soup Recipes

Hello Reader,

How are you? I hope you're having a great day!

Happy Halloween! I know I'm a day early but I wanted to send out a newsletter before you all get busy with parades, parties, and/or trick or treating. Before heading out to trick or treat, plan on having an allergy safe dinner or a hearty snack, bring your epi and emergency meds, a charged phone, a flashlight, and other essentials. Be safe!

Also note that seasonally packaged candies might have different allergen risks, so even if you or your child has safely eaten a full-size of a candy brand, the fun/mini sizes or holiday packaged versions might have different ingredients or might be made in different facilities. Read labels carefully!

If you are planning on staying home, it's not too late to put out your Teal Pumpkins and prepare some non-food treats. If you have storage space, be sure to stock up on any post-Halloween sales because many of those non-food treats will still be good next year!

Chicken Soups for Cold/Flu Season

One of my favorite ways to cook a whole chicken is to make a pot of soup. There's nothing better than pho ga aka chicken pho, a Vietnamese rice noodle soup with chicken. It's quick, easy, and affordable.

I make this chicken and vegetable soup in my Instant Pot on a regular basis because it's fast and easy and tastes great. The recipe uses chicken leg quarters but sometimes chicken drumsticks are $1 pound so of course I use that instead.

I keep a can of cream of corn and chicken broth in my cupboard for when I need some soup ASAP. This recipe is simple, satisfying, and can be made in a little pot within 15 minutes. If it looks familiar, you are right, it's a faster and easier version of the Instant Pot chicken, corn, and egg drop soup I shared earlier this month but perfect for when you need the easiest recipe possible.

Medication Updates and Reminders

Allergic Living published an article about Amneal launches a generic asthma inhaler which is great news and gives people more medication options at a lower cost. This inhaler needs to be used with a spacer. If you have any questions, please discuss with your doctor.

My ragweed allergy has been acting up and discovered that both of my inhalers were expired as well as my prescriptions. Thankfully my doctor was able to send my prescriptions to the pharmacy and I was able to pick up my prescriptions the next day.

I'm sharing my experience as a gentle reminder to check that your emergency medications such as inhalers and epinephrine devices have been properly stored, are not expired and are in good condition, ready to use.

Social Media/Newsletter Update

Apparently there are some changes on some social media platforms which make them increasinglyn difficult to use. 2027 might be the year that I actually transition to sharing updates with this email newsletter primarily instead of relying on social media.

For this reason, please ensure that this newsletter ends up in your inbox by saving my email address as one of your contacts and by replying once in a while. Thank you for your continued subscription and interest in what I have to share with you.

Thank you for reading. If you have any compliments, questions, or suggestions, please click reply and let me know. I will do my best to respond within a day or two.

Warmly,

Sharon Wong

Hello Reader, How are you? I hope you're having a great day! It's been a while since I last sent out a newsletter but like that awkward friend that suddenly texts you out of the blue to have coffee, here I am, in your inbox to say hi and to share an update. On a personal note, about a year ago I had a health scare while traveling for work. My heart was pounding super fast and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I think what happened was that my heart was beating to the dance music...
